This board was on display from 1 October 2019 to 31 December 2019 at the Brisbane Square Library as part of an exhibition with the Queensland Woodturners Society.
I made this camphour laurel serving board with inlaid dried forget-me-not flowers and a piece of aqua aura quartz from Brazil.
The camphour laurel is from Western Queensland and has a stunning grain. I've cut the piece in two and then re-joined the pieces with a resin inlay. The forget-me-nots had been drying and I really wanted to keep with the blue theme for this board. The aqua aura quartz looks more blue to me than aqua, so I stuck with it! I've set it in the resin so that it stands proud of the resin surface. I like the fact that it is touchable and it adds incredible texture.
I've added a beautiful antique Italian copper handle to the serving board, I like its solidity and lack of additional detail so the flowers and crystal take centre place.
